About Shattered

Shattered! was started in 1982 by Dutch childhood chums, Peter Kramer and Jaap Hoeksma. For the record: neither of them was walking around a train station with a bunch of old Rolling Stones’ albums! They did however, have big collections between them and decided that they should share their love of the band with the rest of the world. (Shattered, the last track on Some Girls, seemed like a suitable name - and it has stuck.)

The site picks up where the magazine, Shattered! left off, finishing in 2008 after 30 successful issues. Why 30? Because that is the same number as the original Stones fanclub magazine. And, mark our words, if you have collected all 30, hang on to them because they are genuine collectors’ items! We still have quite a few back issues if you want to join the select club.

In the meantime, this website includes a selection of some of the best features and reviews in the mag, as well as keeping everybody up to date with what is happening in Stones-land.

Acknowledgements and thanks

Shattered! has received a lot of support over the years from the Stones’ office and from the band themselves. We tried not to get in their way or to pester them and, in return, they looked after us - photo passes, invitations back stage, priority tickets and messages to our readers.

We have also had fantastic support from a huge range of photographers, who believed in what we were doing and let us use their photos very generously. Take a bow: Dave Hogan, Brian Rasic, Gered Mankowitz, and Rob Verhorst. We could not have done it without you!

What now? That is the big question. Will the Stones continue? They can still knock spots off the younger competition. No one can else match their contribution over nearly 50 years to rock and roll music. But, at some point, they are bound to call it a day. When that happens, that will not be the end of it. The music and the memories will endure. We hope that this site brings much of that to life. Put some Stones into your CD player, iPod - even onto your record turntable - and enjoy!
